	• error-prone, variable bandwidth links (4.8 kbps to 512 kbps) • Topology centred around a land based NOC where high-level management decisions are made (hierarchical authority) • the communications network is multi-hop (not just long pipes) • Routing is based on OSPF • moderate mobility speed  (dynamic topology) • a wide variety of applications (most of traffic is web-based)
