Problem definition and
context
Problem: Achieve the
synchronization of a set of geographically separated clocks located in every
node of a minimum-infrastructure wireless network (single-hop or multi-hop).
Why Network Synchronization Algorithms?:
qNS has been used to enable and
enhance the performance of MAC, and management protocols for
Wireless Networks; NS can be viewed as a QoS enabler
functionality.
qNS is one of
the key functions that enable the co-ordination of packet transmissions in the mesh network variant
of the IEEE 802.16 standard, and for power and channel management in IEEE
802.11.
