WSN Authentication using RF Fingerprints (D. Knox and T. Kunz)

Idea – Binding Physical Layer to Data Layer

§RF Fingerprints are physical layer entities

–Measurements are made by neighbours (that are within RF range)

–Real WSN hardware is simplex (nodes cannot listen to themselves)

§Need a way to link RF Fingerprints with higher protocol layers to allow authentication to take place at a network level

§Our proposal:

1.Neighbour Discovery using RF Fingerprints

2.Creation of a ‘neighbourhood’ Conference Key

3.RF Fingerprint Exchange (within the ‘neighbourhood’)

4.RF Fingerprint secure aggregation (within the ‘neighbourhood’)

5.RF Fingerprint-based credential creation and usage (which can be used outside the ‘neighbourhood’, but use the maximal set of neighbours as referees)
