Problem definition and
context
Problem: Achieve the
synchronization of a set of geographically separated clocks located in every
node of a wireless Ad Hoc network (single-hop or multi-hop) in a distributed
manner.
Why Network Time-Synchronization (NTS) Algorithms?:
qNTS has been used to enable and
enhance the performance of MAC, and management protocols for
Wireless Networks; NTS can be viewed as a QoS
enabler functionality or a basis for providing QoS to real-time applications.
qNTS is one of
the key functions that enable the co-ordination of packet transmissions in the mesh network variant
of the IEEE 802.16 standard, and for power and channel management in IEEE
802.11.
