Ad hoc Routing Protocols
nRouting problem has received a significant interest in the research community, resulting in several protocols proposed.
–Some have been invented specifically for MANET.
–Others are adapted from traditional routing protocols for wired networks (i.e., distance vector or link state algorithms)
nThese traditional protocols do not work efficiently or fail completely.
nThe main group of proposals comes from the work of IETF’s MANET working group
–Designed for IP based, homogeneous, mobile ad hoc networks.
–Focuses on fast route establishment and maintenance with minimal overhead
nNumber of hops is used as the only route selection criteria.
nOther parameters, such as energy usage or QoS, are not considered.
